RACING fans have learned to keep an eye open for possible stars of the future on the all-weather at this time of the year. While it would be expecting a lot for last Saturday’s Newcastle novice winner Without Parole to turn out as good as his stable-companion Enable, who made a winning debut on the course just over a year ago, he is certainly an exciting prospect.

A Frankel half-brother to the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile winner Tamarkuz, Without Parole slammed the last-time winner Trevithick by six lengths and in what I make a useful timefigure of 93 (Timeform opted for 86). His closing sectionals of 11.6s then 12.2s were comfortably faster than par, and much faster than those of his toiling rivals. It is not an especially bold prediction that Without Parole will prove to be one of the best among the classic generation in John Gosden’s yard in 2018.
