IN this oddest of flat racing years, arguably the most important race, anywhere and at any time, took place in Tokyo last Sunday. The Japan Cup has attracted crowds well in excess of 100,000 but just a small fraction of that number were allowed in this year due to coronavirus restrictions.
Those who attended were treated to a vintage renewal and an exciting spectacle, with the 2018 winner Almond Eye taking on the three-year-old filly and colt Triple Crown winners Daring Tact and Contrail.
