BY a Derby winner, in Camelot, and out of a half-sister to a Derby winner, in Dr Devious, it could be said that Even So was doing what she was bred to do in winning a mile-and-a-half classic – the Juddmonte Irish Oaks at the Curragh – last Saturday.

Even so, she is not the only one of which that would be true, and they do not all fulfil expectations by any means. Plenty of credit must go to the human team who steered her from fairly modest beginnings to success on the big stage.
