THERE is no such thing as a poor Grand National winner, but only a few are likely to be talked about after most of us have gone, and Tiger Roll will surely be one of them after his second successive victory in the race on Saturday.

He is not just astonishingly versatile and durable, he is very good, too. For much of Saturday’s race he went like a horse far superior to his 159 handicap mark. In the end, he was ridden out to hold the persistent Magic Of Light and Rathvinden, in an Irish-trained one-two-three, with Timeform sticking a rating on him that would have seen him finish third to Al Boum Photo in the Cheltenham Gold Cup itself.
