THE other timing news from the Curragh at the weekend was less ambiguous. The times recorded by Fascinating Rock in winning the Tattersalls Gold Cup and by Beacon Rock in winning the Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes – both slowly-run races – were poor but the one recorded by Caravaggio in winning the Listed Marble Hill Stakes was fast - seriously fast.

The son of Scat Daddy stopped the clock at just 62.22s, which translates into a timefigure of 115. By way of comparison, the previous best by a juvenile in Britain and Ireland this season was the 100 recorded by Sutter County. The runner-up in the Marble Hill, Mister Trader, went into a clear second with a timefigure of 107.
