IF there was a future Cheltenham Festival winner on show at Newbury it might well have been in the concluding bumper - won the year before by Barters Hill - in which Ballyandy carried a penalty to an impressive success.

This was a steadily-run race, and the timefigure recorded by Ballyandy was a mere 99, but he had already posted the best figure by a bumper horse this campaign (123) when a close second, giving weight, to Coeur Blimey at Ascot the time before.
