THE first of the Grands Prix at Cavan Indoor Championship kicked off on Thursday with Emily Turkington and Jay Gatsby getting their campaign off to a great start with victory in the 1.35m Grand Prix. Owned and bred by Cormac McKay from Tyrone, the 11-year-old gelding is by Gatsby out of the Loughries Quiet Man-sired Tullydraw Lady. They were fastest of nine double clears, in 39.04 seconds.

Speaking after the class, a delighted Turkington said: “It was a great way to start the show. This horse is really special and he has been placed in six of the last Grands Prix that he was in. I have had him since he was a five-year-old and the plan is that after Balmoral we will travel to France. I am very lucky to have eight really talented horses and I would like to thank all my owners for their support.
