JUNIOR, Young Rider and Children on Horses divisions showed just how much young talent there is in this country when they provided impressive results in the two 1.30m classes over the weekend at Cavan.

In last Saturday’s class, Erin Crawford guided the eight-year-old Carrickadawson Womaniser (a gelding by Womanizer out of Lisbracken Queen, by Aldatus Z) to the top spot when they recorded a jump-off time of 29.04.

Twenty eight of the 64 starters made it into the jump-off and the top-three finishers posted sub 30 second rounds.

Katie Crawford was runner-up with Princess Leah (a mare by Ard VDL Douglas, out of Douras Moon by I’m a Star) in 29.65.

Equal third place went to Tyrone Flanagan and Jennifer Leeper’s eight-year-old gelding Ardragh Cordubh (Creevagh Ferro - Cavalier Royale) and Chloe Hughes Kennedy and Clare Hughes’ Zuidam who both stopped the clock at exactly 29.95.

Wins for Ward and Fagan

Dylan Ward and Hard Times came out on top in last Sunday’s 1.30m after they lodged a very quick jump-off time of 37.91 to take the win.

Ten of the 19 starters provided a clear first round to battle it out in the timed decider. Taylor Sweeney and the Dutch-bred seven-year-old Ice Cream VDT took the runner-up spot in 40.67.

Third went to Cian Goggins riding the eight-year-old mare Castleforbes Chessie (by Castleforbes Lord Lancer out of Kawasaki Des Hayettes by Concorde) in 42.35 while fourth went to Ward and his second mount, the seven-year-old Diamant De La Mer (Diamant De Semilly - Eurocommerce Berlin) in 43.12.

Taking fifth was Patrick Byrne and Oughterrard Diva, while sixth went to Abigail Boland riding Kahlua Du Karl.

In Sunday’s 1.20m, Mullingar’s Alanna Fagan (COH) rode Ballycarrick Lass to victory.
