I started writing this column around this time last year, after Hardelot, which is where I am heading this week. I hope I have given you a good picture as to what is involved in being a professional show jumper and horse dealer. There are many different aspects to the job that might not be that obvious to the uninitiated. I suppose in one sense it is up to each individual as to how much or little they want to do when it comes to the ‘satellite’ jobs that go with it – breeding, training, dealing etc.

I’ve enjoyed writing the column as you can often learn more about yourself when taking on a project like this, as it involves a certain amount of research, like, for example, when I discussed the Dutch model of syndicating. I have been surprised at the amount of feedback that I have received from you, the readers – some good, some bad!
