LAST Sunday’s Irish St Leger winner Sonnyboyliston provided the perfect advertisement for next week’s Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.

The two-day sale, which takes place in Newmarket this year, is on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Also the winner of the £500,000 Ebor at York this season, Sonnyboyliston was sold by Confey Stud for just €26,000 at the 2018 sale.

His trainer Johnny Murtagh is a huge fan of this sale, having bought his first Group 1 winner Champers Elysees at the 2017 edition for only €28,000. Incredibly, Murtagh also picked up his Royal Ascot and Leopardstown Group 3 winner Create Belief at the Fairyhouse sale for a mere €12,000.

This year’s Tattersalls Gold Cup winner Helvic Dream was another €12,000 graduate of the sale.

Last year’s sale, which was staged in Newmarket, included Group 2 Railway Stakes winner Go Bears Go (£50,000), Group 3 Anglesey Stakes winner Beauty Inspire (£25,000), ParisLongchamp Group 3 winner Corazon (£11,000) and Naas Group 3 winner Hermana Estrella (£42,000).

Next week’s sale will again be staged in Newmarket, the sales company taking an early decision to give clients certainty.

There are 489 yearlings in Part 1 with 101 yearlings selected for Part 2, which takes place directly after Part 1 on Wednesday evening. All yearlings catalogued are eligible for the €300,000 Tattersalls Ireland Super Auction Sales Race 2022. The vendor of the winning horse will receive an Overlander two-stall horsebox.

The 2021 catalogue features own or half-brothers and -sisters to several group and listed winners.

Among the sires with progeny in the sale are Acclamation, Australia, Bated Breath, Caravaggio, Churchill, Cotai Glory, Dandy Man, Dark Angel, Decorated Knight, Exceed And Excel, Fastnet Rock, Footstepsinthesand, Holy Roman Emperor, Iffraaj, Invincible Spirit, Kodi Bear, Kodiac, Make Believe, Mastercraftsman, Mehmas, No Nay Never, New Bay, Profitable, Ribchester, Sea The Stars, Showcasing, Starspangledbanner, Teofilo, Ulysees, Zoffany and Zoustar.
