PLENTY of Irish trainers, buyers and breeders will be at the Arqana Autumn Sale which starts today [Saturday] and runs until next Thursday. There is a strong National Hunt theme running through the sale and, as it does not clash with Goffs this year, there has been a great take-up by the Irish racing and breeding community of the offer from Arqana to arrange transport and accommodation.

Nicola Kent is Arqana’s Irish representative and she can provide interested parties with catalogues and information on travelling. For bloodstock and bidding, the best contacts are Mathieu Legarde and Freddy Powell, who both speak fluent English. Bids can also be placed through arqanaonline.com but you need to create an account and register for the sale of your choice in advance.

With France in lockdown, Arqana has done very well to keep the sale on and access to the sales complex will be restricted to professionals participating in the sale, namely consignors and their staff, buyers, vets, shipping agents and Arqana personnel. The sale will be staged entirely outdoors in compliance with increased Covid-19 guidelines. Buyers can place bids from around the parade ring if they have pre-registered with Arqana, or they can bid by phone or online.

The sale starts at 11am today (Saturday) with a session of 254 flat-bred yearlings, organised in partnership with Osarus. Among the sires represented are Dabirsim, Galiway, Goken, Kendargent, Le Havre, Shalaa and Pedro The Great, as well as first-crop sires Aclaim, Al Wukair, Birchwood, Brametot, Ectot, Elm Park, Recorder, The Grey Gatsby, Whitecliffofdover, Wings Of Eagles, Zarak and Zelzal.

Sunday is a ‘dark’ day, reserved for inspections. On Monday around 200 flat and National Hunt horses-in-training will go under the hammer. Tuesday is devoted to a total of 151 stores, including a number of horses that would traditionally have been offered at the Summer Sale.

Wednesday’s session sees 189 National Hunt-bred yearlings offered for sale, and on Thursday 161 National Hunt foals, fillies and broodmares will be on offer, in a session which has been brought forward from the December Sales.
