KEENELAND’S September Yearling Sale ended last Saturday following a dozen sessions. Gross receipts topped $300 million for the first time since 2008, producing record average and median prices and 13 seven-figure sales.

Turnover of $307,845,400 was 13% ahead of 2016 (13 days) and was the highest since the 15-day September Sale in 2008. The average rose 23% from $97,740 to $120,487, smashing the previous record of $112,427 set in 2006. The median of $57,000 increased 43% compared to last year’s $40,000. The previous record median was $50,000. Thirteen horses fetched $1 million or more compared with nine last year and were bought by nine different buyers.
