CLOSE to 7,000 horses will be offered for sale at Tattersalls in Newmarket this year and the first of them will enter the ring at Park Paddocks next Thursday morning.

The two-day February Sale gets the sales year underway and numbers 487 lots, with high-class consignments from many of the world’s leading owner-breeders including Godolphin, Juddmonte Farms and Shadwell Estates,

The catalogue contains 188 fillies and mares in/out of training, 38 broodmares, 206 colts/geldings in/out of training, 32 yearlings and 22 two-year-olds.

The largest draft in the catalogue is the team of 57 consigned by Barton Sales, which includes 10 fillies and 30 colts and geldings in/out of training, owned by Shadwell Estates.

Eyecatching lots among the draft include Hamaayel, an own-sister to the Grade 1 E.P. Taylor Stakes winner Blond Me; Waajeeha, the Kingman daughter of Group 3 winner Hawaafez; and the four-year-old Kingman filly out of Group 3 winner and Group 1 Prix Rothchild third Mashoora.

Shadwell Estates will consign two broodmares alongside eight yearlings by an impressive list of stallions including Blue Point, Iffraaj, Night Of Thunder, Teofilo and Too Darn Hot.

Taghrooda relation

New England Stud will offer a draft of 10 two-year-olds on behalf of Shadwell Estates featuring several exceptional pedigrees. These are led by a half-sister to champion filly Taghrooda by Awtaad, as well as a colt by Sea The Stars out of the Oaks runner up and Group 2 Blandford Stakes winner Tarfasha, already the dam of the listed winner Rakan and the Group 3 second Wuqood (who is also in the sale).

A colt by Dubawi out of the listed winner Yaazy, a half-sister to Group 1 winner Matterhorn, group-race winners Bangkok and Tactic and to the dam of champion miler Ribchester, and a colt by Cracksman out of a full-sister to Group 1 winners Schiaparelli, Salve Regina and Samum are also among the highlights.

Regular leading consignors Godolphin will offer a draft of 47 lots including several regally bred broodmares. New Style, a half-sister to champion two-year-old Dream Ahead and to the dam of dual Group 1 winner Fairyland, and Heaven’s Angel, a half-sister to the Oaks winner Qualify, will be offered in foal to Kodiac and Siyouni respectively.

Prefer, a Galileo own-sister to the 1000 Guineas-placed Moth and five further group or listed race winners will be offered in foal to Kingman, while Luceita, a half-sister to Group 2 Rockfel Stakes winner and 1000 Guineas runner up Lucida will be offered in foal to Invincible Spirit.

The draft also features several smartly bred fillies including Painted Daisy, a half-sister to the three-time Group 1 winner Hunter’s Light and to the dam of Group 2 Hardwicke Stakes winner Fanny Logan.

Further sisters to Group 1 winners catalogued include Rooful, a half-sister to Queen Anne Stakes winner Accidental Agent, consigned by Eve Johnson Houghton’s Woodway Stables; Gift Horse, a half-sister to Golden Shaheen Stakes winner Krypton Factor consigned by James Tate’s Jamesfield Stables; and Santiki, a half-sister to Grand Prix de Paris scorer Behkabad, who will be offered by the Castlebridge Consignment.

The list of broodmares catalogued also includes the Group 3 winner Walk On Bye in foal to Without Parole (first foals in 2022), as well as mares in foal to proven Group 1 sires Ardad, Havana Gold, Invinicible Spirit, Kingman, Kodiac, Make Believe, Mehmas and Siyouni.

The Juddmonte Farms consignment is always eagerly sought-after and includes several promising lightly raced prospects and smartly bred fillies including Laurel, a Kingman daughter of the Group 1 Pretty Polly Stakes winner Promising Lead, and Aquiano, an Equiano filly from the family of top-class racehorses Bated Breath, Cityscape, Equilateral and Logician.

Tattersalls chairman Edmond Mahony said: “The Tattersalls February Sale continues to be a source of high-quality breeding stock and horses in training, with the dams of three individual Group/Grade 1 winners in 2021 a prime example.”

THE unbeaten White Marlin has been added to the Tattersalls February Sale as a wildcard and is catalogued as Lot 375A.

The four-year-old son of Mastercraftsman will be consigned by Ronald Rauscher and has won both of his two starts to date for trainer Joseph O’Brien, earning a Timeform rating of 93p for his more recent victory at Dundalk.

White Marlin boasts an equally impressive pedigree as he is a half-brother to Group 1 Flying Five Stakes winner Romantic Proposal.

Other late entries include the Michael Bell-trained three-year-old Dairerin (rated 93), and two from Brian Meehan’s yard: recent Lingfield winner Acrion and City Runner, impressive at Southwell.

Their dam Playwithmyheart is a half-sister to the Group 1 Prix de la Foret winner Toylsome.

Buyers looking for colts and geldings in training with smart form also have plenty to choose from. Godolphin will offer the dual Group 3 winner Majestic Colt, runner up in the Group 3 Goldene Peitsche on his most recent start, and the Castlebridge Consignment will offer the listed winner and Group 3 Greenham Stakes runner-up Mehmento amongst a sizeable contingent of 32 lots.

Further eyecatchers among the draft include the lightly raced three-year-olds Park Street and Velazquez, both winners of their most recent starts for John and Thady Gosden, and the Hugo Palmer-trained Sydney Street.

Among other potential highlights is the Park House Stables-consigned Dance At Night, Timeform rated 80p following a promising win on his most recent start for Andrew Balding and a half-brother to the group-race winners Dancing Star and Foxtrot Lady.

Pinhookers also look well catered for with yearlings catalogued by proven Group 1 sires such as Farhh, Havana Gold, Iffraaj, Nathaniel, Night Of Thunder, Sea The Moon, Tamayuz, Teofilo and Territories, exciting young sires Aclaim and Time Test, as well as those from the first crop of Advertise, Blue Point, Eqtidaar, Inns Of Court, Land Force, Masar and Too Darn Hot.
