An especially strong day’s trade which was notable for the remarkable level of demand that exists for the progeny of Walk In The Park produced a pair of six figure transactions on day two of the Tattersalls Ireland November National Hunt Sale on Sunday.

At the close of quite a remarkable session the turnover came in at in excess of €4.8 million. The average of €24,455 was up by 11%, the median progressed from €18,000 to €19,000 and, most striking of all, the clearance rate hit a remarkable 84%.

Walk In The Park supplied the day’s three highest priced lots and the first of these to make €100,000 was a colt who was snapped up by leading pinhooker Ciaran Conroy. This colt was consigned by Yellowford Farm on behalf of G.C.E. Farm Ltd and he is a half-brother to the ill-fated Sir Erec who won at listed level on the flat and was successful at Grade 1 level as a juvenile hurdler before his career was cut short.

“He’s just a lovely foal from a great pedigree and we all saw what Sir Erec could do both on the flat and over hurdles,” reflected Conroy. “Hopefully he’s a horse to look forward to and we’ll just let the dust settle and decide in due course what route to take with him.”

Yellowford also supplied the other €100,000 son of Walk In The Park whom Margaret O’Toole purchased on behalf of fellow agent Aiden Murphy. This colt is from the immediate family of Empire Of Dirt. Just minutes earlier O’Toole was again acting for Murphy when giving €95,000 for a son of Walk In The Park out of a Listed-placed daughter of Robin des Champs.

"GORGEOUS FOALS"

“They are two gorgeous foals who have been bought for Aidan. They both come from nice families and the sire has already had a great season both on the track and in point-to-points,” reflected Margaret O’Toole.

Much earlier in the day a colt from the first crop of Order Of St George fetched €90,000 and he was also bought by O’Toole on behalf of Murphy. This grandson of Galileo was offered by John Dwan’s Ballyreddin Stud.

“He’s from the first crop of an outstanding racehorse and he’s great example of the sire who is getting really good looking stock. Let’s hope he’s lucky,” commented the agent.

Another €90,000 transaction was supplied by the only Kapgarde foal in the sale and this colt was picked up by Norman Williamson. A return to the sales ring is the plan for this relation to the Albert Bartlett Novices Hurdle second Mossley whom Ballincurrig House Stud offered on behalf of Cathal Ennis’ Quill Farm.

The top priced filly of the day was a daughter of Flemensfirth and the dual Grade 3-winning mare Morning Run and she was snapped up by Jane Mangan.

“She’s by a star and she’s out of a star. Hopefully she’ll be a good addition to our families. She’s from a wonderful bloodline,” surmised Jane Mangan.

FAYONAGH BROTHER

An Order Of St George half-brother to the Cheltenham bumper winner Fayonagh was snapped up by Brendan Bashford for €80,000.

“He’s just a very good looking horse by a top class stallion and the pedigree speaks for itself. He’s been bought for a client who could well bring him back for resale as a three-year-old,” declared Bashford.

Elsewhere the early exchanges saw Richard Rohan splash out €75,000 for a son of Princess Zoe’s sire, Jukebox Jury, and the Listed-placed hurdler Flementine.

“He’s a lovely, well made colt and a very good mover too. We’re delighted to get him and I’ve bought him for a client of Ballincurrig’s who will reoffer him as a three-year-old. He’s from a young and happening family and we like the sire too,” reflected Rohan.

The sale concludes on Monday when Grade 1 winner Laurina is expected to top the session.
