THE Arqana Breeze Up Sale returns to Deauville next week for the first time since 2019. The past two editions were staged in Doncaster for logistical reasons due to Covid-19.

Last year’s top lot was a colt by Medaglia D’Oro who was sold by Malcolm Bastard to Godolphin for £675,000. Subsequently named Chancellery, he won his maiden first time out at ParisLongchamp for André Fabre and was group-placed.

Another of the top lots from 2021, Awaal, won at Lingfield this week and looks useful. There’s also Eldar Eldarov, a £480,000 Dubawi colt sold by Norman Williamson’s Oak Tree Farm. He won his only start last season and holds a Dante entry for next Thursday at York.

Malavath may have disappointed in last Sunday’s 1000 Guineas but this £120,000 buy from last year’s Arqana Breeze Up has been a star for connections, winning at Group 2 level and placing in Grade 1 company.

Summer Is Tomorrow was also a £120,000 Arqana purchase, and this Irish-owned runner-up in this year’s UAE Derby is an intended runner in the Kentucky Derby tonight.

The 2022 catalogue consists of 145 juveniles plus seven wildcards. Just 14 had been withdrawn at time of writing. The pre-trained two-year-olds will breeze on the grass at Deauville La Touques racecourse on Thursday from midday, before being offered for sale on Friday from 2pm.

The 80 stallions represented in the catalogue include established sires Candy Ride, Curlin, Dark Angel, Exceed And Excel, Invincible Spirit, Into Mischief, Kingman, Kodiac, Le Havre, Lope De Vega, Mehmas, More Than Ready, New Bay, No Nay Never, Shamardal, Sea The Moon, Sea The Stars, Siyouni, Zarak, Zelzal and Wootton Bassett.

Young sires with offspring for sale here include Accelerate, Bee Jersey, Bolt D’Oro, Classic Empire, Cloth Of Stars, Expert Eye, Good Magic, Harry Angel, Justify, Mendelssohn, Saxon Warrior, Seabhac, Seahenge, Sioux Nation, U S Navy Flag and Zoustar.
