LISTED race winner Horoscope topped Monday's trade at Tattersalls in Newmarket when sold for 325,000gns to continue his racing career in the Middle East.

The first session of the four-day Tattersalls Autumn Horses in Training Sale got off to a strong start with 14 lots selling for 100,000gns or more.

The average and median prices rose 60% and 78% respectively compared with the opening session last year, whilst the clearance rate was 88%.

BBA Ireland’s Michael Donohoe signed for the top two lots during the opening session with both lots headed for the Middle East. Horoscope, a three-year-old colt by No Nay Never, was consigned by Coolmore.

"He goes to the Middle East," revealed Donohoe. "With a rating of 110 he can run in all those top races in the Emirates. He goes on quick ground and he is versatile, he is a good-looking horse and he has the pedigree to be a stallion down the road."

Horoscope has won at listed level for trainer Aidan O’Brien and was third in the Group 2 Boomerang Mile at Leopardstown two starts ago.

SAUDI DERBY

Donohoe had earlier secured the Michael O’Callaghan trained I Am Magic for 200,000gns and the son of Magician is set to head to Saudi Arabia. The two-year-old colt was a close up third in the Group 3 Killavullan Stakes at Leopardstown on his most recent start, which earned him an official rating of 101.

"He has been bought for a Middle Eastern client to run in the Saudi Derby on Saudi Cup day," said Donohoe. "He has come recommended by Michael [O'Callaghan], I have seen his races and seen him breeze. He is a big horse and there is more to come from him."

QATARI PURCHASE

Qatar’s leading trainer Jassim Ghazali secured the Shadwell Estate consigned Majalh for 155,000gns.

The two-year-old son of Siyouni, who was trained by William Haggas, was an impressive four length winner at Brighton on his third and most recent start, earning a Timeform rating of 91p.

MURTAGH ADDITION

The three-year-old colt Raadobarg caught the attention of several buyers, selling to agent Hamish Macauley for 150,000gns on behalf of trainer Johnny Murtagh. The Amo Racing owned colt was trained by Roger Varian who won three races with him earlier this year. The son of Night Of Thunder was offered with a Timeform rating of 108.

Murtagh has enjoyed a great season on the track this year and said: "I am delighted to get such a high-class horse. His form looks solid and hopefully he can improve from three to four."

The sale continues on Tuesday.
