A TRIO of six-figure transactions and a significant growth in activity towards the head of the market were the hallmarks of Tuesday's trade at the Goffs November Sale.

The session produced an aggregate of nearly €7.4 million which was a 50% improvement on last year. An average of €34,460 and the €28,000 median represented increases of 23% and 40% respectively while the clearance rate for the day came in at 84%.

The top lot was a son of Camelot hailing from the storied Airlie Stud who cost Timmy Hyde €170,000 after he outlasted Michael Fitzpatrick.

The colt, who shares his sire with the likes of Luxembourg, is out of a winning Invincible Spirit half-sister to the Moyglare Stud Stakes heroine Chelsea Rose whose distinguished career at stud has yielded horses the calibre of Chelsea Rose.

“He’s a lovely colt and a great mover and he’s by a sire we’ve had a lot of luck with. He also comes from a proper family and we were very happy to get him,” reported Hyde whose purchase will return for sale next year.

Shadwell sale

The second lot into the ring on Tuesday created quite a stir and Tally-Ho Stud saw off a host of challenges for a €130,000 son of Exceed And Excel who was offered by the Castlebridge Consignment on behalf of Shadwell.

The third produce of the listed-placed Ejaazah, this colt is a half-brother to Elsals who sold for 140,000gns at the horses in training sale following his debut third at York last month. This colt’s other half-brother, by Tasleet, headed last Saturday’s sale at Tattersalls Ireland when fetching €29,000.

The Tally-Ho team were busy throughout the day with their other spending taking in an €80,000 colt hailing from the first crop of their resident sire Inns Of Court.

Other purchases by the Mullingar farm included an €80,000 son of Starspangledbanner and a €75,000 for a U S Navy Flag colt.

Gleesons gamble

On a good day for Camelot’s progeny Michael and Laurence Gleeson of Aughamore Stud splashed out €120,000 on a son of the Montjeu horse out of a half-sister to the Zetland Stakes winner Max Vega, consigned by Stanley Lodge in Cashel.

“We’re big fans of the sire and we felt he was an outstanding individual coming from a very good farm who we have had luck buying off in the past,” reported Michael Gleeson.

Among the major pinhooking outfits to swing into action were Yeomanstown Stud whose spending took in a €98,000 colt hailing from the first crop of the triple Group 1-winning Advertise.

The farm also spent €90,000 on a Zoustar colt offered by Airlie Stud.

RC Bloodstock went to €90,000 for a well-related daughter of Kodiac while John Cullinan and Roger Marley also hit €90,000 when signing for a colt from the first crop of Ten Sovereigns.

“He’s a good a model and he’s a strong type with good bone and a good walk. He's what we all want. Obviously he's by a first season sire who was a very talented racehorse. I haven't seen that many by the stallion but I've been impressed by the few I have seen,” remarked Cullinan.

“There's some fantastic racehorses among this year's bunch of first-season sires so it would be hard to pick a standout from among them. We bought one earlier by Magna Grecia (a filly for €70,000) who's another of those. They're a cracking bunch and I hope we're on the right ones,” he added.
