FRIDAY morning’s session of the Tattersalls July Sale produced the best fireworks of the week so far. The subject of the excitement was the sale of the three-year-old Frankel colt New King. He became the second most expensive horse ever sold at the July Sale when fetching 450,000gns, bought by James Harron Bloodstock for an Australian-based ownership syndicate.

The colt’s value was enhanced since the catalogue went to press as he won a nine-furlong handicap days before the sale for trainer John Gosden.
