Sad passing of Michael Fortune

RACING journalist Michael Fortune died on Monday, aged 70, after a short illness.

A Wexford man, he was arguably the best known figure in Irish greyound racing, a sport he worked in for more than 40 years, chiefly as a commentator at Shelbourne Park and Harold’s Cross. He began his media career with the Irish Press group and was the horse racing correspondent for the Sunday World newspaper for many years. He took part in The Irish Field’s weekend nap table.

He is survived by his wife Rita, and their children Ian and Michelle, and four grandchildren.
