Record-breaker Stoute

Sir Michael Stoute has won virtually all there is to win in racing and victory for Poet's Word in the Prince of Wales's Stakes saw him claim a record-breaking 76th winner at the meeting.

Having drawn a blank 12 months ago, the Newmarket handler moved ahead of his late rival and friend Sir Henry Cecil thanks to the victory of the five-year-old in the Group 1 prize.

Winner number 77 was not long in coming with Expert Eye completing a double on the day for Stoute with a runaway victory in the Jersey Stakes.

One for the North

While the majority of the winners on the opening two days hailed from either yards in Newmarket or from Ireland, victory for Signora Cabello in the Group 2 Queen Mary struck a blow for the North and Malton handler John Quinn.

Although sent of a 25/1 shot, despite having tasted listed glory last time out, the daughter of Camacho was produced with a perfectly-timed run by Oisin Murphy to complete a hat-trick in what could be a launchpad to further pattern-race success.

Having drawn a blank on day one, Aidan O'Brien roared back into business when saddling a one-two-three in the Queen's Vase

After leaving the course a frustrated character on Tuesday following defeats for several of his leading contenders, the master of Ballydoyle saw his mood change after Kew Gardens marked himself as a contender for the St Leger with a decisive victory in the Group Two.

Royal Ascot has been a source of frustration for Marco Botti over the years, but following several near misses the Newmarket-based Italian enjoyed his first winner when Aljazzi went one better in the Duke of Cambridge Stakes than 12 months ago.

After ticking one box off on his CV, Botti will be hoping the five-year-old daughter of Shamardal can supply him with another by giving him a first British Group 1 winner in next month's Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket.

When it comes to Irish winners at Royal Ascot most head the way of Aidan O'Brien, but countryman David Marnane showed he is capable of producing one for the big occasion as Settle For Bay stormed to victory in the Royal Hunt Cup.

After nursing the four-year-old back from a broken pelvis, the Co Tipperary trainer was rewarded for persevering with the son of Rio De La Plata with a victory that suggested he is a bit better than just a handicapper.
