Albany Stakes (Group 3 )

MEDITATE (Aidan O’Brien/Ryan Moore) took her record to three wins from as many starts and showed further improvement to land the Group 3 Albany Stakes, beating main market rival Mawj (Saeed Bin Suroor/Ray Dawson) by one and three-quarter lengths at odds of 5/2. The daughter of No Nay Never was well drawn as things panned out, with the first three home all coming from single-figure stalls.

She raced quite keenly, but Moore allowed her to go to the front and she was kept under wraps there as the race developed, keeping on strongly in the final furlong as her rider asked her to stretch.

Mawj was tapped for toe mid-race having travelled up well enough, and she stuck to her task well, without having the turn of foot needed to trouble the winner.

Ivory Madonna (Richard Spencer/Hollie Doyle) did best of those who raced towards the rear, keeping on for third after breaking slowly, two lengths behind the impressive winner.

This was Ryan Moore’s fourth winner of the week after drawing a blank on Tuesday, and a 70th Royal Ascot winner all told for the jockey.

The winner is clearly held in some regard, and it is interesting to note that O’Brien has given her entries in the both the Railway Stakes and the Phoenix Stakes.
