THE result of the Tim Brennan case has given us much food for thought in the last couple of days, and there are a few inevitable conclusions to draw as long as we don’t get distracted by secondary concerns.

In bringing charges against Brennan, the BHA needed to know that they had the right man, and they had to have produce telling evidence that Brennan’s brother Michael laid Faugheen for the 2016 Champion Hurdle as a result of a tip-off from his brother that the horse was injured. In terms of saloon-bar gossip, this looks a good case.
