IT has been a week where there has been plenty of talk of the dominance of Willie Mullins and the state of racing in the country. Richie Forristal wrote an article last week suggesting some ideas to entice more people to come racing and that the state of racing is in decline. I agree with some of his points.

The fact of the matter is however, just because people aren’t going to the races doesn’t mean that people aren’t interested. I know plenty of people who don’t go racing, but are very interested in it and watch it on TV almost every day. It’s like saying golf isn’t in a good position because there’s not huge crowds at each tournament every week yet there’s never been as much money in it. The crowds will always turn up at the big tournaments, just like they will at the big festivals. It certainly doesn’t mean that the sport is in a bad place.
