ATHLONE’s Kate Derwin claimed the gold medal in the U18 (Junior) competition at the European Youth Show Jumping Championships at Zuidwolde in The Netherlands. Riding the Irish Sport Horse AHG Whiterock Cruise Down, she delivered five clear rounds during the week-long competition, including a double clear round in final. Holding the overnight lead, Derwin was last to jump in the deciding round but not fazed by the pressure, she delivered another clear to claim the individual gold medal

Earlier at the show, chef d’equipe James Kernan’s Gain Irish U18 (Junior) show jumping team of Harry Allen (Dancing Queen Z), Derwin (AHG Whiterock Cruise Down (ISH), Jack Ryan (Essenar High Hopes) and Ciaran Nallon (Cloe GP Z), added another medal to Ireland’s impressive record. Less than one fence separated the top three teams at the finish, with the Irish quartet of Allen (Dancing Queen Z), Derwin (AHG Whiterock Cruise Down), Ryan (Essenar High Hopes) and Nallon (Cloe GP Z), took the bronze medal.
