On August 1st 1995 a three-year-old filly called Timarida collected a prize of £15,500 for her three-length victory over Al Mohaajir in the McDonogh Handicap at Galway. This was the daughter of Kalaglow’s third start and third victory and she won with 8st 6lb on her back in the shape of Christy Roche.

Owned and bred by the Aga Khan and trained by John Oxx, how many people that day foresaw the career that would follow? Six days later she turned out at Leopardstown for the Listed Brownstown Stud Stakes – which had a winner’s purse of £9,675 – but this time Roche had to watch from the runner-up position as Johnny Murtagh, carrying 1lb overweight, steered Timarida to a four-length success.
