STAFF at Ferrans Stud and New Abbey Stud in Co Kildare were in mourning this week at the passing of Prince Khalid Abdullah. The 83-year-old was arguably the most consistently successful owner-breeder at the top level in world racing for the past 40 years.

Prince Khalid’s main stud farm is Banstead Manor Stud in England, home to Frankel, but his two Irish farms have played a vital role in the Juddmonte success story. The prince acquired Ferrans Stud in Kilcock in 1982 and New Abbey Stud in Kilcullen was added circa 1990.
