OUR final batch of trainees are now going out on work placement and will be busy in coming weeks completing various assessments and course work in order to achieve their certified modules. As the year progresses, they continue to participate in a variety of personal and professional development activities which recently included a refresher course with sports psychologist Paul Aherne on mental skills development, some sessions on race riding skills with Ross Coakley using footage from the winter series at Dundalk, pilates and gym work, mental health awareness and a session with 2017 British champion apprentice David Egan who is heading to the US for off-season work experience. Egan, still only 19, provided some great insights to our trainees on professional preparation and performance and what it takes to get ahead in a career as a professional jockey.
