THE evergreen Gerald Mosse, (47), rode a finely judged race to win the Group 2 Qatar Prix de Royallieu on the former Spanish Frine who is now under the care of Carlos Laffon-Parias (also Spanish) at Chantilly. In what looked an open looking event, Frine came rattling along in the straight to beat Mayhem and the favourite Zarshana. It was a blanked finish and the winning distances were a short neck and a head. The Irish-trained Euphrasia finished seventh and just stayed on in the straight.

Last year, when trained in Madrid, Frine (High Chaparral) won at Dax and also picked up the Group 3 Prix Fille de l’Air at Toulouse. Before her first trip to Longchamp, the filly had finished fifth in the Prix de Pomone on very soft ground which blunted her turn of foot. The good going last Saturday enabled Frine to show her class and an impressive turn of foot which Mosse made full use of.
