THE Darren Weir-trained Pentire gelding Prince Of Penzance struck a blow for locally trained stayers with a win in the Group 2 Moonee Valley Gold Cup over 2,500 metres on Saturday.
Coming from behind, Prince Of Penzance was able to overhaul the André Fabre-trained Singspiel horse Au Revoir who was trying to lead all the way and then fought off the German-bred Le Roi, an entire by Areion now trained locally by Tony McEvoy.
