Jockey win

CONOR McGovern, an 18-year-old former show jumper from Clones, Co Monaghan, won his first race as a professional jockey at Dundalk last Friday night. After the 10lb claiming apprentice had steered Slipper Orchid to a surprise success, his guv’nor Michael Halford said: “Conor is a good horseman and I’m delighted for him. He’s going to be a jump jockey and should do well at that game - he has plenty of show jumping experience.”
