FORMER racehorses often find a second career as eventers or in the increasingly popular Racehorse to Riding horse show classes. Sarah Lang’s Kingdom Warrior found a new vocation in the show jumping ring after the Grand Plaisir gelding, out of the Callernish mare Ballyhire Lady, was sourced for her by Mary Carter.

“He originally went through Goffs as a four-year-old for €4,600 and was placed in a bumper. His owners sadly passed away and he was found in a field by Mary,” said Sarah, whose original plan for him was to train him for point-to-points. “But then he was so careful, we taught him the show jumping game in which he just simply excelled.”
