NIAMH O’Dochartaigh, author of several books on Connemara ponies and the history of Galway County Show, was busy proofreading over the winter on her husband Eoin’s project.

Eoin has translated some of the works of Liam Ó Briain, who spent 40 years as the Professor of Romance Languages in University College Galway and wrote during his time in Galway gaol in 1920 when he was taken by the Black and Tans from the University. Essays by an Irish Rebel will be launched at a reception, hosted by Dublin Lord Mayor Nial Ring, in the Mansion House next Wednesday. And after that, fans of “Niamh’s Weblog” the invaluable archive of Connemara ponies, will hope to see the Galway lady out and about at shows this summer.
