CONTINUING a proud tradition of over 70 years, Kingdom County Fair will be hosted at its new Showgrounds in Ballymacthomas, Tralee tomorrow (Sunday). The show is moving to its own greenfield site, located about three miles outside the town. This field was purchased thanks to the vision of the show committee about 30 years ago and will welcome Kingdom County Fair for the first time tomorrow.
Sunday’s show promises to be a fun-filled day for all the family. The grounds will be open from 9am with the official opening performed by Minister for Education, Norma Foley T.D., whose late father Denis was the chairman of the show when it originally obtained their new showgrounds.
Guests on the day will include Seán Kelly MEP for Ireland South, and Kerry Rose, Sally Ann Leahy, while children’s entertainment will feature The Little Rose Buds, Fanzini Productions, and more.
The Show’s mission is to provide a platform for local businesses to display their goods to the public and for the promotion of local culture including music, dance, home crafts, horticulture. The popular show also hosts a wide range of classes for cattle, sheep, goats, horses, and a dog show, amongst other numerous activities on the day.
Upwards of 4,000 visitors are expected to visit the show on Sunday, including some 300 Ukrainians guests who have been accommodated in the local ‘Earl of Desmond’ hotel.
Approximately €30,000 is paid out in prize money across the wide range of classes on the day. Holmoak Stables have increased the prize fund in the 1.30m competition to €1,000. The package includes free entries to the winning rider’s horses at next year’s fair. This year’s chosen charity is the Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Chairman James Tarrant said: “It’s great to be back, we believe that our new showground is a wonderful facility. I would like to thank all our hard-working committee, our sponsors, particularly our main sponsors Horse Sport Ireland, Lee Strand and Kerry Group, our exhibitors and the numerous people that make it such a special day.”
