WHILE most of the country was bathed in sunshine last Sunday, Cahersiveen had to endure a heavy mist for much of its annual races, run on the course granted to them by Daniel O’Connell back in the 19th century. Brazilian rider Fabio Neto celebrated his recent return to Ireland and the southern circuit by capturing the feature Cahersiveen Derby, and Danny and Mikey Sheehy partnered three and two winners respectively.

Danny opened his day with victory in the 15hh race on Farmer Boyce as the Three County Syndicate charge foiled a brave effort by the Libby Ducker ridden On The Edge to make it four wins on the bounce. Sheehy then rode two winners for Listowel based Batsy Maher. Man Of Steel was a very impressive winner of the Mile Race as he quickened away from his toiling rivals, with the Darragh O’Keeffe-ridden Shrek leading the chasing pack.
