IRISH Pony Club members got to sample some top-class racing at the Curragh Racecourse last Sunday as part of the inaugural Irish Pony Club Family Race Day. The event, which was organised in conjunction with the end of the Pony Club’s summer season, included a special showcase of Pony Club member talents on the famous flat racing grounds.

This year marked the fifth instalment of the popular Jockey Skills course for Pony Club members, which took place at RACE two weeks ago. The ten young riders selected from around the country participated in a two-day programme which involved riding racehorses on the gallops, video coaching, simulator training, fitness instruction and general yard duties as they got to sample a slice of Academy life and considered the attractions of a career as a jockey.
