POLO: Summer season of polo opens in Wexford at Bunclody

Kim Mullahey reports on the opening of the polo summer season at Bunclody

THE summer season of polo opened last weekend (Saturday and Sunday, June 5th-6th) at Bunclody Polo Club in Wexford, the tournament highlight being the presentation of the new Most Valuable Player award.

Earning the honour and presented with a hand mallet, courtesy of KM Mallets was Tommy Tagle, the 12-year-old based at Bishopland Polo Club in Co Kildare who first made his mark in the 2020 season.

The young gun lined out with LHK Insurance for the win late in the tournament final against the seasoned CJ Law/Workpal team to win the Perpetual Glass Trophy on 5.5 goals to 5.

The lower goal Quinlan Cup tournament, open to players with handicaps as low as -3 was won by Wexford on 7 goals to 3 from Curraghmore.

As well as being on the LHK Insurance 0-2 Goal team to win the Perpetual Glass Trophy at Bunclody Polo Club in Wexford, Tommy Tagle at just 12 years old was named as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player, earning a hand mallet, courtesy of KM Mallets, which was presented by Robert Hogg, chairperson of Bunclody Polo Club \ Kim Mullahey
