AN unprecedented win for Tyrone at the AIPC in Phoenix Park and the burgeoning success of Irish country polo ramped up polo in Dublin and Wexford last Saturday and Sunday, marking the first set of tournaments in nearly 150 years to occur simultaneously in each of two divisions.

ICP were formed out of last year’s HPA (Hurlingham Polo Association) insurance rule change, absorbing Bunclody into the new division along with the scheduled upper league fixtures for the Patrons’ Cup and the lower league’s Wexford Cup. With the AIPC remaining in the HPA as before, the Derby Tournament for the upper league President’s Cup and the Mumms Cup, which went to Wicklow on eight goals to six from Rocklow in the lower league, went ahead as planned at the FIPC (Federation of Irish Polo Clubs) meeting of the two divisions earlier this year.
