Tryster: The Group 3 coral.co.uk Winter Derby, over 10 furlongs on the artificial track at Lingfield, is the first pattern event of the British flat season and it was won by Godolphin's four-year-old Tryster, who is trained by Charlie Appleby.

A gelded son of Kildangan Stud's excellent stallion Shamardal (by Giant's Causeway), he has won five of his seven starts, he was bred by Herbertstown House Stud, and he is a half-brother to the listed scorer Mutasallil (by Gone West).

His dam Min Alhawa (by Riverman) is a half-sister to the Group 1 1000 Guineas star Harayir (by Gulch) and her grandam is the Group 1 Irish Oaks heroine Give Thanks.

Affaire Solitaire: The Patrick Khozian-trained five-year-old won the first European turf pattern race of the season, coming out best in a five-way photo finish for the Group 3 Prix Exbury at Saint-Cloud on Sunday.

He was bred by Dayton Investments Ltd, he is a son of the retired Coolmore Stud stallion Danehill Dancer (by Danehill), and he is out of Arlesienne (by Alzao). That makes him a half-brother to the prolific stakes winner Aizavoski (by Monsun), who stands at Arctic Tack Stud, and also to the pattern placed stakes winner Andromeda Galaxy (by Peintre Celebre). He comes from the family of Group/Grade 1 stars such as Arcangues (by Sagace), Angara (by Alzao) and Cape Verdi (by Caerleon).

Marl: Racing in the colours of her breeder Sir Eric Parker, the daughter of Lycius (by Mr Prospector) was a six-length winner over five furlongs in May of her juvenile season. Fourth place in a listed handicap at Epsom the following year, which did not count for blacktype, was arguably her best subsequent effort.

She is a half-sister to the pattern placed five furlong juvenile stakes winner Rowaasi (by Green Desert) and to the talented dual-purpose horse Davoski (by Niniski), and on Saturday her grandson Spillway (by Rail Link) won the Group 1 Australian Cup over 10 furlongs at Flemington.

He was bred by Cherry Park Stud, was a pattern placed multiple winner in England, and is now trained by David Hayes and Tom Dabernig. His dam Flower Market (by Cadeaux Genereux) is also responsible for the stakes placed Aalsmeer (by Invincible Spirit) and the five times scorer Remember Rocky (by Haafhd).

Rail Link (by Dansili), who won the Group 1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, is in his first season in France having spent his earlier years at Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket. His progeny also include last year's unbeaten Group 1 winning juvenile Epicuris.

Around nine hours after Spillway's Group 1 success, Marl's grandson Lexington Times (by Paco Boy) won the Listed 32Red Spring Cup over seven furlongs at Lingfield, a second win from eight starts for the pattern placed, Richard Hannon-trained three-year-old.

He represents the first crop of the Highclere Stud stallion Paco Boy (by Desert Style), and his dam Fuaigh Mor (by Dubai Destination) is a half-sister to the listed scorer Medley (by Danehill Dancer). He was bred by Ruskerne Ltd.

Vroum Vroum Mag: The Willie Mullins-trained six-year-old won the Grade 2 Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Dawn Run Mares Novice Chase over two and three-quarter miles at Limerick on Sunday, a third graded win for the daughter of Voix Du Nord (by Valanour). She is now unbeaten in four starts over fences.

She was bred by Count Antoine-Audoin Maggiar and Antonia Maggiar, she is out of the Selle Français mare Naiade Mag (by Kadalko), and that mare is a half-sister to the Grade 1 winning hurdler Saint Are (by Network).

Keppols Queen: A seven-year-old mare trained by Jessica Harrington, the daughter of Indian River (by Cadoudal) won the Grade 3 Kerry Group European Breeders Fund Shannon Spray Mares Novice Hurdle over two miles at Limerick on Sunday.

She was bred by Mona O'Loughlin, she is out of Keppols Princess (by Soviet Lad), and she is a half-sister to two winners. Her dam's siblings include the prolific dual-purpose horse Roca Murada (by Cyrano de Bergerac), and the next dam is the flat, hurdles and dual chase scorer Keppols (by Furry Glen).

Heathfield: The Tony Martin-trained eight-year-old won the Grade C Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Novice Handicap Chase Final over three miles at Navan on Sunday.

He was bred by Denis Cleary, he is a son of Definite Article (by Indian Ridge), is out of Famous Lady (by Presenting), and is a full-brother to the dual hurdles scorer Patsy Cline. His dam is a half-sister to the Grade 2 winning chaser Queen Of Spades (by Strong Gale), and his grandam Affordthe Queen (by Pitpan) is a full-sister to the high-class pair Garamycin and Afford A King.

Pretend: The Charlie Appleby-trained gelding made it five wins from nine starts when taking the Listed Unibet Hever Sprint Stakes over five furlongs at Lingfield on Saturday.

The four-year-old was bred by Azienda Agricola Loreto Luciani, he is a son of the Irish National Stud's outstanding stallion Invincible Spirit (by Green Desert), and he is out of Fafinta (by Indian Ridge), which makes him a half-brother to the 14 furlongs listed scorer Fiulin (by Galileo). His dam is a winning half-sister to the multiple Group 1 star Falbrav (by Fairy King).

Goonyella: The multiple point-to-point scorer took his record over fences to three wins from 13 starts with victory in the Listed Betfred Midlands Grand National Chase over four miles, one and a half furlongs at Uttoxeter on Saturday.

The Jim Dreaper-trained eight-year-old was bred by Mrs C T and Miss S Berry, and he is a €55,000 graduate of the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale. He is by Glenview Stud's multiple champion sire Presenting (by Mtoto), his dam Miss Fresher (by Pampabird) is a winning full-sister to the listed chase scorer Pampalino, and she is related to the Grade 1 winning French chaser Shannon Rock (by Turgeon).

Goonyella's dual winning half-sister Oh Susannah (by Turgeon) is the dam of the blacktype hurdles scorer Blacklough (by King's Theatre).

Hartnell: Last season's Group 3 Bahrain Trophy scorer Hartnell added the Group 3 McGrath Estate Agents Sky High Stakes over 10 furlongs at Rosehill on Saturday.

The Darley-bred gelding is trained by John O'Shea, and he is a son of the Derby hero and Haras du Logis stallion Authorized (by Montjeu). He is a half-brother to the Group 1 placed stakes winner Roz (by Teofilo), and his dam Debonnaire (by Anabaa) comes from the immediate family of the brilliant classic and Arc hero Suave Dancer (by Green Dancer).

Jameka: An Australian-bred two-year-old by the Haras du Mezeray stallion Myboycharlie (by Danetime), the Ciaron Maher-trained filly won the Group 2 VRC Sires' Produce Stakes over seven furlongs at Flemington on Saturday.

She was bred by Gilgai Farm, she is out of Mine Game (by General Nediym), and her dam is a half-sister to the Group 1 Canterbury Guineas scorer Jymcarew (by Danzero).

Noble Protector: Winner of a listed contest over 12 furlongs at Newmarket last summer, the five-year-old daughter of Beechwood Grange Stud's classic winning stallion Haafhd (by Alhaarth) added the Group 3 Schweppervescence Trophy over a mile at Flemington on Saturday.

She is trained by Robert Smerdon, she was bred by Richard Tucker, and she is out of the pattern placed All Glory (by Alzao). Her pattern winning half-brother All Shamar (by Shamardal) was renamed Exquisite Champion when he went to Hong Kong, and her dam's siblings include Kimbridge Knight (by Night Shift), a top performer in Singapore and Malaysia.

Princess Charm: The Carlos Lerner-trained three-year-old gave her a sire a third European stakes winner from his first crop when taking the Listed Prix Rose de Mai over 10 furlongs at Saint-Cloud on Sunday.

The Rip Van Winkle (by Galileo) filly was bred by Malcolm Parrish, she is out of listed scorer Gold Charm (by Key Of Luck) and comes from a family that has produced a lot of multiple winners in Germany.

Piment Rouge: A first-crop son of the Haras de Grandchamp stallion Evasive (by Elusive Quality), the Christian Scandella-trained three-year-old is now a dual stakes winner following his victory in the Listed Prix Maurice Caillault over 10f at Saint-Cloud on Sunday.

He was bred by the partnership of Didier Blot and Christian de Asis Trem, he is out of Red Sea (by Marignan), and that mare is an unraced half-sister to the pattern placed stakes winner Houwayda (by Carwhite). The mare is also a half-sister to Clara Bow (by Top Ville) who is the dam of the Group 1 winning miler Turtle Bowl (by Dyhim Diamond) and of the Group 1 placed pattern scorers Turtle Bow (by Turtle Island) and Age Of Aquarius (by Galileo).
