THE Irish turf flat season got underway at the Curragh on Sunday and that opening day went into the record books as the scene of one of the longest-priced stakes winners of recent decades.

Ramone was the 100/1 outsider of 12 in the Group 3 Lodge Park Stud European Breeders Fund Park Express Stakes and, in heavy underfoot conditions, it was she who came home best, scoring by two lengths from Afternoon Sunlight.
