BERNARD Caldwell of the Irish Stable Staff Association sends in news of the annual soccer match against their English counterparts last Saturday: “This was the sixth soccer match between Irish and English stable staff. This year the game was played at Newbridge Town all-weather pitch. The English team arrived on Saturday morning with their leader George McGrath, son of former top jockey of the same name.

“Kick-off was at 5.30pm and Ireland got the first goal after 25 mins and then England scored just before half-time.
