THE first running of the Horseware Student Derby takes place at the finale of the Curragh season next Tuesday, October 26th.

The innovative race, which is the brainchild of Riley Dargan, Paddy Barlow and the Curragh Racecourse, is the first of its kind and will feature the top riders from each of the universities of the European Student Horseracing Federation (ESHF), competing over the Irish Derby track of 12 furlongs (2,400 metres). The winning rider will receive a trophy and all other participants will be presented with mementos. The winning rider will also present a €5,000 to the equine related charity of their choice which has been generously donated by John Lavery.
