WITH the first game of polo in Ireland taking place in 1870 at Gormanstown Strand, the sport which originated in Persia in the 6th century, has had a revival in Ireland over the last couple of decades.

Hosted by Polo Wicklow, the international ladies polo tournament this year is on Saturday, August 19th at Ballyhenry polo grounds, Ashford, Co Wicklow and the day will raise funds for Irish Injured Jockeys. Polo Wicklow was established in 1993 by Michael Herbst on the Herbst family farm outside Ashford, Co Wicklow.
