THE sad death of Jack Charlton has brought back many memories for people, all revolving around the 1990 and 1994 World Cup era in soccer. He brought joy to a nation and was adopted by a country.

Stan McCormack of Kilbeggan Race Committee has been in touch to recount the story of that famous penalty shoot-out between Ireland and Romania on Monday, June 25th, 1990, which coincided with racing at Kilbeggan.
