AMONG the many people from the world of racing who attended last week’s Tattersalls International Horse Trials was Co Tipperary trainer Edward O’Grady whose daughter Mimi was competing in the CCI1* class for ponies. Riding her mother Maria’s 11-year-old roan mare Rosog Rusty, Mimi improved three places after dressage thanks to her excellent cross-country phase. The young rider was clear over the solid fences, as were 11 others in her class, but what made her round stand out was that she came home in 8m 18secs, two seconds under the time allowed of 8.20.

This was a skilful piece of riding by Mimi as many others went far too fast. We think a well-judged ride like Mimi’s should be rewarded.
