LE Bernardin became the first dual winner of the Group 2 $250,000 Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 on Thursday as the 2017 Dubai World Cup Carnival got underway at Meydan. The Ali Rashid Al Rayhi-trained eight-year-old won the race, run on dirt, last year by a head but this time was a more comfortable victor. UAE champion jockey Tadhg O’Shea was again in the saddle.
