Ol’ Man River, who won the Group 2 Beresford Stakes in brilliant fashion, has been retired to stud and will stand in Co Wexford at Eoin Banville’s Arctic Tack Stud.

As a son of Montjeu and the European champion racemare Finsceal Beo, Ol’ Man River hit the headlines initially when he sold as a yearling for €2,850,000 at Goffs to M.V. Magnier.

Trained by Aidan O’Brien, he followed up a maiden win on his debut with a near three-length win in the Beresford Stakes. Previous winners of that race include Sea The Stars, St Nicholas Abbey and Azamour.

Four starts at three did not yield any more success and Ol’ Man River was retired after one start this season. He is one of last sons of the late great Montjeu to retire to stud and represents this highly successful sire line that has produced National Hunt stars such as Hurricane Fly, Douvan, Nicholls Canyon, Min and Ivanovich Gorbatov in recent years.

At Arctic Tack, Ol' Man River will stand alongside Aizavoski, Arcadio, Caudillo, Jet Away and Le Fou. His stud fee has not yet been published.
