THE death has taken pace of well known solicitor and racehorse owner John Foley. Based all his life in Bagenalstown, Co.Carlow, John built up a thriving legal practice and was well liked and respected by members of his profession.

He had a lifelong interest in racing and breeding and usually kept a few mares. The best horse to run in his colours was Barrow Line who won 12 races over 18 months. He won the Red Mills Hurdle at Gowran but became a top-class novice chaser in the 1986-87 season. He won the Drinmore Novice Chase at Fairyhouse, the Denny’s Novice Chase at Christmas and the Arkle Chase both at Leopardstown and for which there was a bonus in winning all three.
