IRISH punters will have a unique opportunity to use their local racing knowledge to win some money on the Irish Champion Stakes next Saturday.

The Leopardstown race is the first Irish race to be included in the World Pool, which will see punters from 20 leading racing nations betting on the race.

Established and hosted by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, World Pool brings together betting activity from racing fans around the world so it is effectively one single pool for the purposes of liquidity and pricing.

British punters have enjoyed some benefits of this ‘commingling’ with favourable dividends recorded at Epsom, Royal Ascot, Goodwood and York this summer.

Derby winner Adayar paid over 19/1 on the Tote compared to an SP of 16/1. Of the 35 races at Royal Ascot this year, the Tote+ dividend beat the industry SP on 21 occasions and matched it on the remaning 14 races. Goodwood produced similar results, as did York’s Ebor meeting.

World Pool will offer a variety of bet types on the Irish Champion Stakes. They are win, place, trifecta (first three in correct order), quinella (first two in either order) and swinger (two in the first three).
