CONOR Brassil had a four-day suspension handed out by the stewards at Down Royal on March 17th quashed on appeal this week. The Appeals Body, consisting of Nick Wachman, Colin Magnier and Sean Barry, adjudged that the rider was not in breach of any rule of racing and they further ordered that his deposit be refunded and his riding fee be restored.

The Down Royal acting stewards found that Brassil had failed to take all reasonable measures to obtain his best possible placing on Troll D’Oudairies, trained by the rider’s father Martin, who finished second in the handicap hurdle, beaten a head. Evidence was heard from the rider who pointed out that the gelding stumbled after jumping the last, almost unseating him, and that he had ridden him out after regaining his momentum.
