No TAMS equine housing funding yet
WITH funding of over €320 million spent on the current round of TAMS (Targeted Agriculture Modernisation Schemes), funding for equine housing is not included but the system is under review.
The issue was raised by Cork South West TD Christopher O’Sullivan (FF) who recently asked the Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue TD (FF) if TAMS 2014-2021 participants were successful in acquiring funding for equine housing.
In response, the Minister said ‘a wide variety’ of items under seven measures were available under TAMS, including horse stocks. To date, total expenditure under the seven measures of the TAMS, including transitional expenditure, is in excess of €325 million with commitments of an additional €145 million made to scheme participants who have yet to draw down those grants.
“Some 44,842 applications have been approved under the scheme. All outstanding approvals issued represent potential outstanding liabilities for the Department and we must have a budget in place to pay these claims.
“TAMS is a demand-led scheme and it is open to applicants to select the investments they wish to make from the extensive list available. Equine housing is not one of the investments available under TAMS, however grant aid is available for horse stocks,” said Minister McConalogue.
Meanwhile, the On-Farm Capital investment scheme is being developed, subject to formal approval of the European Commission. Minister McConalogue added that the public consultation phase on the Environmental Assessment of the draft CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027 closed on December 8th and was being reviewed by him this month in advance of submission.
